Scholarship Awwards Announced

The Bernard McCarren Division II Newark AOH is proud and excited to announce the recipients of the 2023 James P. Brennan Academic Scholarships.


Claudia Sweeney, $1000.00. Claudia is graduating from St. Elizabeth's HS this year. She and her family attend St. Margaret of Scotland Parish. She plans to attend Bentley University in Massachusetts.


Abigail Catts, $500.00. Abigail is graduating from St. Mark's HS. She and her family attend St. John the Baptist - Holy Angels Parish. Her college plans are still being decided, but UD has not been ruled out.


Both of these young ladies received the St. Francis de Sales Award, which recognizes outstanding seniors of the Catholic secondary schools in the Diocese of Wilmington.


The James P. Brennan Academic Scholarship was established by the Division in 2013. It is open to high school seniors who are involved in the church communities at any of the Newark, DE Catholic Parishes from which our division draws its members. Those churches are: Holy Angels/Saint John the Baptist, Holy Family, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and Saint Margaret of Scotland.Originally called the Newark AOH Scholarship, it was renamed in 2016 following the passing of Mr. Brennan, a Division member and a respected consultant in Delaware real estate.


The Cpl Bernard McCarren Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians is an Irish Catholic fraternal organization and has been active in the Newark, DE community since 2003.
